"Robin and Jennifer! Do one of you want to help me bring some stuff down to the storage shed in the basement?" Charlie called.
"I will, Daddy!" Jennifer said. Charlie and Jennifer took the elevator down to the basement. Charlie was putting more boxes down in the storage locker, before they moved to the new house.
Jennifer said, "I can't wait 'til we move, but I'll miss all my friends in the apartment building."
Charlie said, "I know you will, but we're not moving very far. You can always come back to visit."
While Charlie was putting the box into their locker, Jennifer was looking around. "Oooh, Daddy, look, a cat! Here, kitty, kitty! Oh, he's so soft."
Charlie said, "Okay, honey, that's it, let's go."
Jennifer said, "Oh, Daddy, can I just stay and pet the cat a little more?"
Charlie looked at his watch. "Okay, honey, but in ten minutes, I want you back upstairs, okay?" Jennifer nodded. She watched as her father got back in the elevator.
After a few minutes, the cat started to walk away. Jenn said, "Hey, Kitty, where're you going?" Jennifer followed the cat. Suddenly, she was surrounded by all these pretty things. She looked around. She and the cat had wondered into someone else's storage locker.
"This should be locked up, " Jenn said, as she went to examine the open lock on the shed. She started to touch the pretty stuff. "I really shouldn't be touching this stuff," she thought to herself. "Well, maybe I can just look around."
Suddenly, Jennifer realized she had to use the bathroom. "I guess I'd better go upstairs," she thought. Then she heard a noise. At first, she thought it was the cat. She looked around for the cat, but did not see it.
"Hey, there, you! What do you think you're doing?"
Jennifer jumped. She was so scared; she wet her pants. She turned around and was staring straight into the eyes of Mr. Sam, the building super.
"Oh, Mr. Sam, it's you! You scared me half to death!"
Mr. Sam said, "Who are you? And what are you doing in Mrs. Cohn's things?"
Jennifer whispered, "Mr. Sam, it's me, Jennifer Clemente, one of the twins. I wasn't touching anything, really. The lock was open, and everything was so pretty. I was just looking, honest."
Mr. Sam said, "Yeah, well, we'll see about that. Open your hands. I can't be having anything being stolen now, can I?"
Jennifer opened her hands. Thank god, she hadn't picked anything up. Mr. Sam seemed satisfied that she didn't have any of Mrs. Cohn's things. "Okay, now, let's go call your parents and have them come get you. You shouldn't be down here by yourself anyhow."
Mr. Sam called The Clemente apartment, but the line was busy. "Well, I guess I'll have to deliver you myself, then, let's go."
Jennifer was scared. She knew her dad would be mad: not only did she wet her pants, but she got caught being where she shouldn't have been. Ever since the incident with Beth Thompson's pocketbook, she had tried to stay out of trouble.
"Looks like I blew it!" she said to herself.
Up in the apartment, Charlie was on the phone. When the doorbell rang, he asked Robin to look to see who it was. Robin said, "Daddy, it's Mr. Sam and Jennifer."
Charlie said into the phone, "Look, I have to go, I'll call you back." He went over and opened the door. "Hi, Sam, is something wrong?"
Sam ushered Jennifer into the apartment, while he stayed in the hall. He said, "I found her going through Mrs. Cohn's things. She didn't take anything, as far as I could see, although I didn't check her pockets."
Charlie looked down at Jennifer. She looked down at the floor. Charlie said, "Is that true, Jennifer? Were you touching things that don't concern you?"
Jennifer nodded. She was afraid to open her mouth. She could feel her father and Mr. Sam staring at her though, and she knew she was expected to answer.
"I'm sorry, Daddy, I couldn't help it. I was following the cat. The locker was open, and everything was so pretty. I didn't take anything, honest."
Charlie said, "Well, I'll just check for myself," and he reached into the front pocket of Jennifer's jeans. That's when he felt that they were wet.
"Oh, Jenn, again?!" Charlie was disappointed. Jennifer could hear it in his voice. Charlie felt the outside of each pocket. "No, Sam, there isn't anything in the pockets. Besides, Jennifer knows better than to steal. Don't you, baby?"
Jennifer knew her father was thinking of the pocketbook incident. "Yes, Daddy," she said. Charlie turned back to Sam, "Sorry again, Sam, thank you for bringing her back up." The two men shook hands and Sam walked away.
Charlie closed the apartment door. He turned to Jennifer, "Okay, young lady, I want you to go change, and then I want to see you in my room, do you understand?"
Jennifer sighed. "Yes, Daddy." Jennifer took off her wet things and put them in the bathtub. Then she used the toilet, and washed her hands. She went into her room and grabbed a fresh pair of panties. As she was putting them on, she said, "Well, I won't be needing these for too long, I guess."
She went into her parents' bedroom and over to her father who was sitting on his dressing room chair. She stood in front of him and waited.
Charlie said, "Jennifer, I'm very disappointed in you. I thought I could trust you down in the basement for ten minutes. Almost as soon as I was out of the room, you got yourself in trouble. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Jennifer started to cry. She was disappointed in herself, as well.
"I'm sorry, Daddy," she sobbed. "I don't know what came over me. I followed the cat, and then I was in this locker, surrounded by beautiful things, and I don't know, I just started to touch everything. I knew I shouldn't, but, but, I don't know, I couldn't help it. I'm sorry." Jennifer continued to cry.
Charlie was holding her by her shoulders. Jennifer was crying and looking down at the floor. Then Charlie put his hand on her chin and lifted her face to meet his. He said, "I'm afraid, 'I'm sorry' just doesn't cut it, little girl. You're always sorry when you're caught doing things you shouldn't. What I want you to learn is to not do them in the first place. Do you understand?"
Jennifer nodded. Charlie said, "Now, what about your wet pants? Did you know that you had to go?"
Jennifer thought about it. She knew she should just tell the truth, but she was already in such big trouble. She found herself lying, even before she could stop herself. "Uh, no, Daddy, Mr. Sam scared me half to death, and I guess I just wet myself, then."
Charlie said, "Okay, well, let's get this over with. Come on."
Charlie pulled Jennifer's panties down to her ankles and she stepped out of them. She knew she wouldn't be needing them for long. Then he guided her over his lap. He brought his right hand down hard on her bottom, again and again, alternating between the left and right cheeks. Jennifer cried as her daddy spanked her. She didn't like to be spanked, but she always knew that she was forgiven when it was over. Her father continued to spank, until Jennifer's bottom was bright red. Then he pulled her up onto his lap, and rubbed her back and her bottom, as she cried into his chest.
"I'm sorry, Daddy, I'm sorry."
Charlie said, "Okay, that's okay, everything's all right. Okay, shush now!" He rubbed her back and her bottom until she fell asleep. Charlie stood up with Jennifer in his arms.
He called out to Robin, "Robin, come here, sweetheart!" Robin came to the door of her parents' bedroom. She saw her sister asleep in her father's arms. She also noticed her sister's very pink bottom.
Charlie said, "Robin, will you please get me one of your sister's pantsies, and open it on my bed?" Robin did as she was told. It always made her nervous when her sister was just spanked. Even though she didn't do anything wrong, one never knew!
Charlie laid the sleeping Jennifer on his bed, and put the pantsies on her. He knew she would sleep for at least half an hour. He leaned down and kissed her on her cheek, and said, "I love you, sweetheart!" Then he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
About fifteen minutes later, Lisa arrived home, with the baby and lots of packages. Charlie laughed, "Successful shopping trip, I see?"
Lisa said, "How'd you guess? Here, take the baby."
Charlie took Steven from Lisa. He was sound asleep. Charlie snuck into their bedroom, and laid Steven down in his crib. Charlie couldn't wait until they were in the house, and Steven had his own room. He reclosed the door and rejoined Lisa in the kitchen.
Lisa said, "How was your afternoon? Where're the girls?"
Charlie hesitated, "Well, I'm not sure where Robin is. Last time I saw her, she was in the den watching t.v. and Jennifer is asleep on our bed."
Lisa looked at Charlie. "Oh, no, not again, what'd she do?" Lisa knew the only reason Jennifer would be asleep in their bedroom, is if Charlie had just spanked her.
Charlie started to tell Lisa the whole story, when Lisa went into the bathroom. She saw Jennifer's wet pants in the tub. Charlie had washed them out and set them to dry over the top of the shower.
Lisa said, "Oh, again? Charlie, she's getting worse. She's had more accidents in the past few months then in the time I've known her. What are we going to do about it?"
Charlie said, "Sid told us not to worry about it. He's been her doctor since she was born, and I trust him. She'll grow out of it. You'll see."
Lisa shrugged. She was going to worry anyway. She didn't think it normal for an eleven-year-old to still wet the bed at night, let alone have numerous daytime accidents. Lisa sighed, "Okay, tell me the rest of the story." Charlie filled her in on what had happened. Lisa said, "Hmm, if it's not one thing, it's another."
Lisa went into the den to see what Robin was up to. She saw Robin furiously scrubbing away at the couch cushion. "Robin, what are you doing? What's going on?"
Robin turned to see her mother standing over her with her hands on her hips. Lisa looked at the couch cushion; it was covered in red nail polish. Then she looked at Robin's fingernails; they were red, too. And so were her toenails.
Lisa said, "What on earth do you think you are doing, young lady?"
Robin sobbed. "I'm sorry, Mommy, I was being really careful, and then when I was done, I knocked over the nail polish. I'm sorry. I'll get it out, I promise."
Lisa pushed Robin away from the couch, grabbed the sponge and tried to get the nail polish off herself, but it was too late; the nail polish had dried.
Her mother said, "You are in very big trouble, young lady. I want you to go into the bathroom, find the nail polish remover and take that all off, at once. Then go into your room and wait for me. You are going to be punished."
Robin said, "But, Mommy, it's almost dry, can't I keep it on? Please?"
Lisa said, "NO! You heard me, go right now!" Robin cried but did what she was told.
Lisa bent down and tried to pick the nail polish off, but it didn't work. Then Charlie came in and said, "Lisa, what's wrong? Robin just rushed past me crying." He looked down at the couch. "What is that? Is that nail polish?" Lisa nodded. Charlie said, "Great, that's not going to come out, is it?"
"It might come out with nail polish remover. I'll try it as soon as I'm finished punishing Robin."
Lisa went into the twins' room. Robin was laying on her bed crying into her pillow. Lisa sat down on the bed and said, "Come here." Robin sat up and moved over until she was sitting right next to her mother. Lisa said, "Do you know why you are going to be punished, Robin?"
Robin nodded. "Because I spilled the nail polish on the couch."
Her mother said, "And whose nail polish were you using?"
Robin answered, "Yours."
Lisa said, "And did you have permission to use my nail polish?" Robin shook her head back and forth. She started to cry again.
"I didn't think you'd mind if I used it, Mommy. I was so careful with it, and I thought you would tell me how nice it looked. Oh, if I hadn't spilled it, you would have."
Lisa said, "It doesn't matter if I thought it looked nice or not, Robin, you still used it without my permission. And you were not careful with it, were you? You spilled it on the couch cushion, and I might not be able to get it out. Daddy and I might have to replace that cushion. And if we do, you will pay for it out of your allowance. Do you hear me?" Robin nodded.
Lisa said, "Okay, let's go." Robin stood up in front of her mother. Lisa pulled her pants and panties down to her knees and lifted Robin over her lap. She started to spank Robin over and over again, in the middle of her bottom. Mommy's spankings were different from Daddy's in that way. Daddy would alternate between cheeks, while Mommy concentrated in the middle of your bottom. Robin couldn't decide which was worse. They both hurt an awful lot. Robin tried to avoid spankings as often as possible. It seemed that Jennifer got one every week.
Lisa spanked until Robin's bottom was bright red. Then she stood Robin up and motioned to her pants. "Up or off?" Robin said, "Off" as she stepped out of them. Robin laid on her bed. Lisa rubbed her back and her bottom while Robin cried.
Lisa said, "Okay, you cry it out, sweetheart, I love you. I'll come back in half an hour, okay?" Robin nodded through her tears. Lisa leaned down and kissed Robin on her cheek. Then she closed the door, and left the room.
Lisa went into the kitchen where Charlie was. He was sitting at the table, reading the newspaper. Lisa put her arms around him and kissed the top of his head. "Boy it's been a busy day, hasn't it?" Lisa said, referring to both twins being spanked.
Charlie said, "Yes, it has. I hope we don't have too many more days like this one."
Moving, Pt. II
Finally, the day of the move had arrived. Charlie and Lisa were up early packing last minute things. They let the baby and the twins sleep. They got more done that way. That was one reason they had decided to let Joan and Jack take the kids for the day. It would be much easier with the movers if the kids were not around.
"Daddy! Daddy! Come here!" It was Robin screaming.
Charlie went running into the twins' room.
"What's the matter, Robin? What is it?"
"Daddy, Jennifer crying and calling out in her sleep and I can't wake her."
Charlie said, "Okay, Robin, you go to the bathroom and wash up. I'll take care of your sister."
Charlie saw Robin hesitate. "Really, sweetheart, it's okay, Jennifer will be fine."
Robin left the room. Charlie nudged Jennifer and said, "Baby, wake up, it's Daddy, come on, baby, wake up."
Just then, Jennifer stirred. She turned over and opened her eyes. "Daddy?"
Charlie said, "Yes, baby, it's me. It's okay, you were just having a bad dream. Time to wake up now anyway. Aunt Joan and Uncle Jack will be here soon."
Jennifer jumped up. "No, Daddy, I want to stay here with you and Mommy. I want to help move."
"Jennifer, we've talked about this. You and your sister would only be in the way of the movers. They're going to do all the work. C'mon now, let's get you changed and you can go eat breakfast and get dressed," Charlie said.
Robin and Jennifer ate breakfast quietly. They were sad that they were leaving the apartment. Yeah, it was small, but it was the only place they had ever lived. They still wanted to stay home and help their parents move. Just then the doorbell rang. Lisa went to answer it. It was her sister, Joan.
Lisa said, "Hi, where's Jack?"
Joan answered, "He's in the car with Joseph and Jody. Figures, Jody fell asleep the minute we got into the car. Hi, girls! Ready for an exciting day?"
Jennifer said, "What're we gonna do?"
Aunt Joan said, "How would you girls like to go to Adventureland?"
Robin looked at her parents and then back at her aunt. She was very excited. They hadn't been since the previous summer.
"Oh, yes! Thank you!" Robin said, and she hugged her aunt.
Aunt Joan said, "What about you, Jennifer? Don't you like Adventureland?"
Lisa said, "Of course, she does, she's just a little upset about leaving the apartment. Okay, girls, give a last look around. The next time you come home, you'll be in the new house."
Charlie put his arms around both girls. "Right, and you'll be in your new room upstairs. And it will be set up just the way we talked about. And you'll have your own bathroom, and then we'll set up the extra den as your playroom. You're going to love it!"
Robin and Jennifer both smiled. They had spent hours planning how they would set up their rooms. It was going to be like having their own apartment. They had the whole top floor of the Ranger Ranch house. They had a choice of having their own rooms, or sharing a room and having a playroom/room to hang out with their friends in. Jennifer had thought it might be nice to have her own room. But Robin was scared, and Jennifer, too, thought it might be scary not to have Robin there. So they had decided to do it this way.
Charlie said, "Okay, you girls be good. I don't want to hear about any problems from Aunt Joan and Uncle Jack. Do you hear me?"
Both girls nodded and kissed their father. Then they kissed their mother.
Charlie handed Joan the baby's diaper bag. "Joan, there's also some of Jennifer's pantsies in there. She has one on right now, also. She's been having a lot of accidents. Just remind her to use the bathroom frequently, okay? Have a great day, and thanks again!"
Joan, Jack, Jennifer, Robin, Steven, Joseph, and Jody set off for Adventureland. When they got there, Jack turned the car off and said, "Okay, gang, before we go in, there are a few rules I want to set that must be followed."
Joseph said, "Oh, Daddy!"
Jack said, "I mean it, son, no rules, no Adventureland. Now listen carefully. Rule #1-you must hold hands with someone at all times, and one of you must be holding a grownup's hand. Got it?"
All the kids nodded.
"Rule #2-there will be no whining. If we say no to something, then that's that. And when it's time to go, you go, without any arguments. Does everyone understand?" Jack asked.
He looked around. He waited until all four kids nodded. Then he looked at his wife and asked, "Ready?"
Joan said, "Ready. Let's go."
Joan and Jack and the four kids and the stroller with baby Steven began its journey through the amusement park. The kids went on lots of different rides, played carnival games, and won prizes. They were having lots of fun.
At about 12:00, Jack asked, "Okay, who's hungry?"
"Me!" "Me!" "Me!" "Me!" "Me!"
The fifth "Me!" was from Joan. Jack said, "Okay, it's unanimous, let's go get some lunch."
The seven of them went into the cafeteria. It was just like Nathan's. Both the twins, and Joseph, and four-year-old Jody wanted hot dogs. That was easy. They sat down and ate in silence.
Jack said, "I guess they really were hungry."
Joan said, "Yeah, I guess so."
Robin and Jennifer wanted to go into the game room that was connected to the cafeteria. "Please, can we go, Uncle Jack, while you guys finish your lunch?"
Joseph said, "Yeah, I want to go, too."
Joan said, "Well, you guys could wait a little longer, and then we'll all go."
Jennifer said, "Please, we'll be careful. Please!?"
Jack stood up and pulled six singles out of his wallet. "Okay, you can each have two dollars. I want you three to stay together. And come right back here when you've spent that, understand?"
Robin and Jennifer jumped up and hugged their uncle.
"We will, thank you, Uncle Jack!" they both said.
Jack said, "And Joseph, I want you to hold one of your cousins' hands, got it?"
Joseph said, "Oh, Daddy, I'm seven years old, do I haveta?"
His father looked at him and said, "Yes, you do, or you're not going!"
Joseph said, "Okay, fine." He grabbed Robin's hand and said, "Let's go already."
Joan and Jack watched as the three of them disappeared into the game room. Joan continued alternately feeding Steven and Jody.
Meanwhile, Joseph grew tired watching Jennifer play pinball. He wanted to find this game Frogger that his friend had told him about. Robin was right across from Jennifer playing Ms. Pacman.
"Frogger can't be too far away," Joseph thought.
Suddenly, something green caught his eye and he ran to see what it was. Jennifer saw him run off and yelled, "Joseph, where're you going? Come back!"
Robin turned away from her game when she heard her sister yell, and said, "Where's he going?"
Jennifer came over and said, "I don't know, but we better find him."
Robin said, "Okay, let me just finish up this game. I'm up to my last life anyway."
When Robin had "died", Jennifer and Robin went searching for Joseph. "This place isn't that big, so we shouldn't have any trouble finding him," Robin said.
After walking around for a few minutes, the girls had still not seen their cousin. Jennifer said, "Oh, where is he? I have to go to the bathroom now."
Robin said, "We just passed the bathroom. Why don't you go? I'll wait here for you. If I stay in one spot, Joseph's bound to pass me eventually. He's probably been walking around the same amount we have. We're just further behind him. Look, I'll be right there playing skeeball. You go to the bathroom."
Jennifer thought that was a good idea. "Okay, I'll be right back."
Robin went over to the skeeball machine. It was only a dime. She only had quarters. She went to the change man and got five dimes for two quarters. Then she went back to skeeball and started to play. She was on her third game when she heard:
"Oh, there you are, Robin. I've been looking for you guys all over."
Robin looked up to see her uncle. "Hi, Uncle Jack, look at my score, I'm getting so many tickets."
Jack said, "That's great, sweetie." He looked around. "Where's your sister and Joseph?"
Robin had her arm back and she was about to throw her last ball of the game when she looked back at her uncle. "Well, Jennifer's in the bathroom and um, I'm not sure where Joseph is. I mean, he's around here somewhere, but I'm not sure where." As soon as she said this, she looked down at the floor.
Jack said, "What? What do you mean you're not sure where Joseph is? The three of you were supposed to stay together. Now Jennifer is in the bathroom, you're nonchalantly playing skeeball, and your cousin is missing?"
Before Robin knew what hit her, Jack had swung her around, and slapped her hard on her bottom. In response, she dropped the hard wooden skeeball.
"OW! That hurt, Uncle Jack."
Uncle Jack said, "Well, it was supposed to. And that's just the beginning; you are in very big trouble."
Robin sobbed, "But, Uncle Jack, let me tell you what happened, we . . . "
Jack cut her off, "You know what, I don't want to hear it, young lady."
Robin stood there rubbing her bottom while Jack stood up on a bench and tried to see over the crowd. He did not see his son anywhere and was getting worried.
Just then, Jennifer, Jody and Joan came over to where Robin and Jack were standing.
"Hi, honey, look who Jody and I ran into in the bathroom," Joan said, as she nodded at Jennifer.
Jack growled. Then he said to Jennifer, "And I don't suppose you know where Joseph is either?"
Jennifer shook her head back and forth. Then Jack spun her around, too, and slapped her hard on her bottom. Jennifer started to cry. Jack filled Joan in on what happened.
Joan said, "Well, he's got to be around here somewhere." She turned to the girls and said, "What was the last thing he said to you?"
Amidst tears, Jennifer answered, "He wanted to find this game called Frogger. Robin and I told him we had never heard of it, but he said he wanted to play it. We told him to wait one minute and we would help him find it, but he just ran off. We tried to catch up to him, but we couldn't find him. Then I had to go to the bathroom, and Robin said she was going to wait right here, by the skeeball for me, and hoped he would go past."
Jack turned to Robin and asked, "Is that what happened, Robin?"
Robin said, "I tried to tell you that, Uncle Jack."
He responded, "Well, I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you. Our main concern now is that we find Joseph." Then he turned to his wife and said, "Why don't you all stay here, and I will go look for him? That way, I'll know where you all are."
Joan said, "Why don't we split up and all look? Oh, honey, you don't think Joseph left the building, do you? He's been bugging us about going on the train all day. You don't think he went to see the train, do you?"
Jack looked at Joan, and then hurried out the door. Just then, a man pushed Joseph aside and said, "Little boy, you'd better stand back. The train is coming, and you could get hurt."
Jack saw this and ran and grabbed Joseph. Just then a speeding train went by. Jack looked Joseph over to see that he was all right, and then hugged him close to him.
"Oh, thank god, you're all right. What were you doing? What do you think you're doing out here all by yourself? You could have been killed," Jack screamed.
Then he grabbed Joseph and swung him around. He gave him ten quick smacks on his backside. Joseph started to cry.
Jack said, "Don't you ever do that again, do you understand?"
Joseph recovered from his shock. "I'm sorry, Daddy, I didn't mean anything, I just wanted to see the train." He continued to cry.
Joan and the girls walked over to them. They had followed Jack out and saw everything.
Jack said, "Well, I think that it's time to go home."
Jody said, "No, Daddy, you promised us a ride on the train. I want to go on the train."
Joan said, "Honey, you did promise them. Jody's been so good all day. Let's just go on the train and then we'll call it a day. She needs a nap, anyway."
Jack looked at everyone's faces. He was relieved that his son was all right. He gave in.
"Okay, one train ride coming right up, and then we're leaving. Let's go!"
The train took them all around the park. Unfortunately, Robin, Jennifer and Joseph did not find the hard wooden benches on the train very comfortable. And they all knew there was more in store for them when they got home.
Subj: Moving... part 3
As they were leaving the amusement park, Jennifer called out, "I call the middle," referring to which seat she would get in the old station wagon.
Robin said, "That's not fair, you always get the middle."
Then Jennifer said, "Well, Robin, you know the back is too bumpy for me; I'll have an accident."
Robin muttered to herself, "I'll have an accident." She was mimicking her sister.
Once settled in the back with her cousin, Joseph, Robin turned to him and asked, "Hey, Joseph, you ever realize how much attention your sister and my sister get when they wet themselves?"
Joseph asked, "What do you mean?"
Robin said, "Well, they wet themselves, and then they get all this attention. It's like they're going to explode or something. I can't stand it. I mean my parents actually let Jennifer wear her nighttime 'diapers' all day. And usually, she gets in trouble for wetting herself. I just don't get it."
Joseph answered, "Yeah, I don't get it, either."
Robin said, "Well maybe I have to wet my pants to get some attention around here."
Joseph wrinkled up his face and said, "Oh, yuck!"
Robin laughed. "You're right, it's gross."
As the car pulled in the driveway twenty minutes later, Joan turned around in the front seat and said, "Well, hon, which one are you going to carry in first?"
Jack turned around. All four kids and the baby were sound asleep. Jack said, "I guess I'll start with the youngest and work my way up."
Once all four kids and the baby were settled down for naps, Jack and Joan sat on the couch in the living room, and put their feet up.
"This is the life, " Jack said.
After a little while, Jack said, "Well, I think it's time I dealt with some naughty children. I'll be back in a bit."
First he went up to his son's room. Joseph was awake, staring at the ceiling. Jack went in and sat down on the edge of Joseph's bed.
"Son, it's time for you and me to have a talk about what happened at the amusement park today." Joseph sat up.
Jack continued, "Son, what you did was very bad. Do you know what could have happened to you?" He waited for Joseph to answer.
Joseph said, "I could have got hit by the train?"
Jack said, "Well, probably not, because there are gates there, but, yeah, if you weren't paying attention, you could have gotten hurt. Anything else?"
Joseph thought about it. Then he said, "Mommy said some bad people could have come and taken me away. I'm sorry, Daddy!" Joseph put his head against his dad and cried.
His dad let him cry a little. Then he said, "Joseph, I know you are sorry, but you still must be punished. Come on."
Joseph stood up before his father. Jack pulled his pants and underwear down to his ankles and pulled Joseph across his lap. He started to spank in earnest. All he could think about was what could have happened to his young son. After about 25 spanks, Jack stopped. Joseph's bottom was red and he was crying hysterically. Jack stood his son up and pulled up his underwear and pants. Then he pulled Joseph into his arms and let him cry.
Joseph said, "I'm sorry, Daddy, I won't disobey you again. I'm sorry."
His father said, "I know you're sorry, my son. Okay, shh, everything's okay."
When Joseph had finished crying, Jack asked him if he wanted to sleep some more or go downstairs and watch tv. Joseph chose tv. Jack went into his bedroom, where both twins were sleeping. Jennifer was still sound asleep, but Robin was laying there awake. Jack motioned for Robin to follow him out of the room.
Robin asked, "Uncle Jack, are you going to punish me?" Jack nodded.
"Let's go into Joseph's room. He's downstairs." Robin followed her uncle into her cousin's room.
Uncle Jack asked, "Robin, do you know why you're getting a spanking?"
Robin nodded. "Because we didn't listen to you at the park. And we lost Joseph."
Jack asked, "Any other reason?"
Robin thought. Then she said, "Um, because I was playing a game when I should have been looking for Joseph?"
When her uncle nodded, Robin spoke up, "But we did look for him, Uncle Jack, we couldn't find him. And Jennifer was at the bathroom, so I wanted to stay in one place."
Jack said, "Okay, well, let's back up, when Joseph first ran off, and you couldn't find him, what else could you have done?"
Robin saw where her uncle was going. "Oh, you mean, we could have asked someone to help us, or um, we could have come and told you."
"Exactly, " Jack said, "why didn't you?"
Robin said, "I guess we were afraid to tell you that we hadn't listened to you, and that we had lost him."
Jack said, "Well, I found out anyway, and now you're in big trouble. You could have saved yourself this spanking. Let's go."
Robin came and stood before her uncle. She tried to blink back tears as her uncle pulled down her pants and panties. She hated to get spankings; she tried to avoid them as often as possible. Jack pulled Robin over his lap and started to spank.
Robin tried not to cry. She stared at the floor and thought how differently her uncle spanked than her daddy. Uncle Jack spanked the same place over and over again. It was kind of how her mommy spanked, but not exactly. Her mommy did spank over and over in the same place, but stayed in the middle of her bottom. Uncle Jack spanked in the spot where her bottom met her thighs. She knew she was going to have trouble sitting down later on.
After two dozen spanks, Jack stopped. He rested his hand on Robin's bottom and listened to his niece cry. Robin had given into the crying after the first dozen spanks. Robin winced as her uncle pulled her panties and pants back up over her sore bottom.
Jack turned her around to face him, and asked, "Do you want to go downstairs and watch tv with your cousin, or do you want to rest here and cry it out for awhile?" Robin just nodded.
Her uncle said, "Okay, sweetheart, you just lay down here. I love you."
Robin sobbed. "I love you too, Uncle Jack, I'm sorry."
Uncle Jack had walked away, but he came back when Robin apologized. "I know you are, honey. Sometimes you just need to be reminded how sorry you are."
"Uncle Jack, are you going to tell Mommy and Daddy about this?" Robin asked.
"No," he said. Robin looked up. "But you will," Jack said as he walked out.
As Jack closed Joseph's door and walked into the hall, he sighed. "Two down, and one to go." He went back into his bedroom. There was no one there.
He walked into the hall, and met Jennifer coming out of the bathroom.
Jack looked at his niece, and said, "Let's go." Jennifer followed her uncle back into his bedroom. Jack said, "Do you know what's going to happen right now?"
Jennifer said, "Yes, sir, you're going to spank me."
"Do you know why?" her uncle asked.
"Yes, because I didn't listen to you at the arcade, and I lost Joseph," Jenn answered.
Jack thought how interesting it was that Jennifer spoke in terms of "I", while Robin had said "We".
Jack didn't lecture Jennifer like he did Robin. Jennifer was an old hat at spankings. She just wanted it to be over with fast. Jack pulled Jennifer's pants and panties down to her ankles. Jack guessed she had finally taken her pantsies off after she used the bathroom. Jack didn't waste any time punishing his niece. Soon Jennifer was crying and whining for her uncle to stop. After two dozen spanks, Jack did stop. Jennifer's bottom was as red as Robin's had been.
Jack stood Jenn up and went to pull her pants and panties up. Jennifer said, "No, please don't pull them up. It hurts too much." Jennifer stepped out of her pants and panties and laid down on the bed. She started to rub her bottom.
Jack said, "I love you, baby."
Jennifer smiled. She knew she had been forgiven, when her uncle used the nickname her father always used for her.
Her uncle said, "Come downstairs when you're ready. Okay, baby?"
Jenn said, "Okay."
Moving, Part IV
"Girls," called Aunt Joan, "your parents just called, and they're coming over with dinner: Raynor's."
"Raynor's? Yes!" Jennifer said.
"I love their chicken and corn fritters," Robin said. Joan knew this would excite the twins. They had been down in the dumps ever since their spankings.
Around 6:00, Charlie and Lisa came into the Levine's house. "We're here, and we've brought fried chicken, yams, and corn fritters!" they called.
Charlie thought it was strange that the girls did not come running to hug and kiss them. He went into the kitchen. The girls got up from the couch, turned off the tv, and came into the kitchen to wash their hands.
"Hi, Daddy, Hi, Mommy!" they both said.
Charlie said, "What, no kiss for me?" He grabbed both girls and pulled them close. "I missed you two. It was a long hard day moving. I'm sure you had more fun than we did."
Lisa helped Joan put the food on the table. "Yeah, tell us about Adventureland. Did you have fun?"
Jennifer looked at Robin. Robin had told her that their uncle expected them to tell their parents what happened. Robin looked over at her uncle. Surely, he didn't expect them to tell their parents at dinner?
Robin said, "Yeah, it was fun. We played lots of games and went on a lot of rides."
Jennifer said, "You mean, Joseph and I went on a lot of rides. You were too scared, Robin."
"I wasn't scared of all of them, Jenn. Just the ones that go really high up. I went on a lot." Robin protested.
Charlie said, "I'm sure you did, honey. So, did you win any prizes?"
Jennifer said, "Yeah, just some stupid little things. I wanted this giant stuffed gorilla, but I couldn't get the loop around the wire. Remember that game, Daddy?"
Her father answered, "Yes, baby, you always try that one. Someday, you'll get it."
They ate the rest of the meal in silence. Charlie knew something was up. When everyone had finished eating, Joan and Jack started to clear away the plates. He turned to his brother-in-law and said, "Charlie, why don't you go into the living room? The girls have something they want to tell you."
Robin and Jennifer had their dirty plates in hand. They froze when their uncle said that. Robin said, "Uncle Jack!"
Jack said, "Come on, girls, now's as good a time as any. Here, let me take those plates. Go on!"
Charlie followed the twins into the living room. He had known something was up. He sat on the couch and waited. The twins looked at each other. No one said a word.
Finally, Charlie said, "Well? What's going on?"
Robin said, "Um, well, uh."
Her father said, "Okay, what'd you do? You got a spanking, didn't you?"
Jennifer said, "Daddy!"
Charlie said, "I could pull down your pants and see if your bottom is pink or you could just tell me."
"Daddy!" Jennifer said again.
Then Robin blurted out, "Well, basically, we didn't listen to Uncle Jack and we lost Joseph, and he almost got hit by a train."
Charlie said, "What?"
Jennifer turned to Robin and said, "That's not exactly what happened, Robin, I think you left out a few things."
Then Robin said, "Well, then why don't you tell Daddy what happened, Ms. Smarty Wet pants?"
Jennifer said, "Robin!"
Charlie scolded, "Robin, I don't want to hear that kind of talk from you."
Robin said, "Well, I bet Jennifer doesn't tell you about all the accidents she had today! You'd think she wanted to make in her pants!"
Jennifer started to cry. Charlie stood Robin up and remarked, "Young lady, we are not home, so I cannot send you to your room, but I can send you to the corner. Now go! I want you to think about the way you just spoke to your sister. And you are very lucky that I am not washing your mouth out with soap. Go!"
Robin stomped her foot and went to sit in the corner. Just then, Lisa walked in with the baby. Steven was happily sucking on his mother's breast.
"What's going on?" Lisa said.
Charlie replied, "I just put Robin in the corner for talking disrespectfully to her sister, and Jennifer was just about to tell me what happened at the amusement park today. It seems both girls might have gotten a spanking today."
Lisa said, "Really? Maybe Robin needs her mouth washed out with soap! And girls, what was the last thing your father said to you this morning when you left the apartment?"
Jennifer replied, "Um, be good, and 'I' don't want to hear about any trouble from Aunt Joan and Uncle Jack."
Robin shouted from the corner, "Well, technically, you're not hearing about any trouble from Aunt Joan or Uncle Jack." She seemed pleased with her joke.
Her father was less than pleased. "Watch it, young lady," he scolded.
Then he turned back to Jennifer, "Okay, out with it, now. Tell Mommy and me what happened at Adventureland today."
Jennifer said, "Well, Uncle Jack let me, Robin, and Joseph go to the arcade, but he told us to stay together, and then Joseph ran off, and Robin and I couldn't find him, and then I went to the bathroom, while Robin stayed by the skeeball game, and then, eventually, Uncle Jack found him near the train."
Charlie said, "I see."
Jenn continued, "But, Daddy, it's not like we did it on purpose. I guess we should have gotten Uncle Jack when we first lost Joseph. He got in trouble, too, because he left the building by himself."
"Well, I'm glad Joseph is okay, but I'm not concerned whether he got in trouble or not. I told you two girls to behave yourselves. I'm very disappointed that your uncle had to discipline you," Charlie said. "Man, am I tired!"
Jack had walked into the living room and caught Charlie's last statement.
"Why don't you all stay here overnight? You don't want to have to deal with finding sheets and pillows amidst all your boxes. You can stay down in the basement-there's a bed there. And the girls can stay down there or up in Jody's room," Jack said.
Charlie said, "Oh, well, I don't know, we don't want to put you guys to any more trouble."
Jack said, "Puh-leaze! It's no trouble. I realize you only live a quarter mile from here now, but you're completely exhausted. Come on."
Lisa and Charlie thanked Jack and the two men shook hands.
Charlie said, "But the girls will stay downstairs with us. I want to keep an eye on them."
Moving, Part V
The next morning, Charlie, Lisa, baby Steven, and the twins went home to their new house. Charlie showed the girls around, and then led them upstairs to their "new" room.
"Okay, girls, all these boxes here are yours. Most of the stuff goes into your desks or on your shelves. I want you to try to put as much stuff away this morning as you can. We'll work on the playroom later on. I'll call you when it's time for lunch," Charlie said and then he left the room.
Everything went okay for about an hour. The girls worked hard. They managed to clear about four boxes between them. Then the bickering started.
Robin said, "Jenn, let's put this in the playroom."
Jennifer said, "But Daddy said to wait until later. He wants us to only do our desks and shelves now."
"Oh, and like you always do what Daddy says! Gimme a break, Jenn."
"Robin, I don't understand why you're fighting with me. Let's just get this work done, okay?"
A few minutes later, Charlie called the girls down to lunch. Jennifer seemed like she was in a good mood, but Robin was sulky. Charlie thought to himself, "Uh-oh, I feel trouble brewing."
Jennifer chatted nicely with her father, while Robin made a few not-so-nice remarks here and there. Charlie had to shoot her a few "I'm not too happy" looks and she stopped.
All of a sudden, Jennifer jumped up and shouted, "OH MY GOD!" and she ran out of the room. Jennifer ran to the bathroom. Then she started to cry. Charlie ran to the bathroom.
"Jennifer, baby, are you okay? What's the matter?" Charlie asked outside the bathroom door.
Lisa came out of their bedroom. "Honey, what's going on?" she asked.
Charlie told Lisa how Jennifer had run from the table. Lisa knocked on the bathroom door.
"Jenn? Are you okay? What happened, baby? Can I come in?" Lisa called.
Suddenly, Jennifer opened the door. She was naked from the waist down. In her hands, was a wet pair of pants and panties.
"I'm sorry, Mommy, Daddy. I tried to make it." Jennifer sobbed.
Just then, the baby started to cry. Lisa looked at Charlie.
"He's probably hungry. I have to go feed him," Lisa said.
Charlie said, "Okay, you go take care of him." To Jennifer he said, "It's okay, baby, come on, I'll come upstairs with you. We have to find your box of clothes."
Jennifer continued to cry as they walked up the stairs. She was very disappointed in herself, and knew that her father was probably, too. She knew that she had been having more accidents lately, and she hated it. She thought to herself, "I'm eleven years old. Why does this happen to me?"
Back in the dining room, Robin figured no one was coming back. She figured she'd go back upstairs and finish clearing out her boxes. She went upstairs. She saw her sister standing there in just her shirt, and thought to herself, "Oh, God, not again! What a baby!"
Charlie said to Jennifer, "I'll be right back up, baby, I think that box is still downstairs." He looked at his daughter before he left the room. She was still crying. He went back over to her and put his arm around her. "It's okay, baby. I'm not angry with you." That just made her cry even more.
When he was gone, Robin turned to Jennifer and in a nasty voice said, "I can't believe you wet your pants again, Jennifer."
Jenn sobbed, "It's not like I wanted to, Robin."
Robin said, "I think you did. I think you like to wet yourself."
"What are you talking about? What are you crazy, Robin?" Jennifer shouted.
Shouting back, Robin said, "I'm not the one who's crazy, Jenn. You're the one who's crazy. In fact, I think you wet your pants all the time on purpose, and you know what else I think?"
Jennifer said, "No, what else do you think?"
Robin answered, "I think you enjoy the spankings you get. I mean, my god, you must get one a week. I think you like to get spanked. YEAH, THAT'S IT, YOU PURPOSELY WET YOUR PANTS AND THEN YOU GET A SPANKING. IT'S PERFECT!" Robin was screaming now.
"THAT'S QUITE ENOUGH, YOUNG LADY!" This time, it was Charlie who was shouting. The girls had gotten into their fight so deeply that they didn't hear or see their father come into the room.
Robin was speechless. She was in shock that her father heard her say those things to her sister. Jennifer was quite upset. She covered her mouth and ran into the bathroom, crying hysterically.
Charlie watched Jennifer run into the bathroom. Then he turned to Robin and said, "Don't even think of moving, young lady. You are in very big trouble." Then he went over to the bathroom door and knocked. When he heard a muffled "come in," he went in. After a few minutes, Charlie and Jennifer came out.
"Okay, Jenn, I think you need a nap." Charlie said.
"No, Daddy, I'm okay. Really." Jenn said.
Charlie said, "Jennifer, don't argue with me. You were up late last night with your cousins. And you're exhausted. Come on now, you'll feel better. Let's go!" Her father helped her into her pantsies and she laid down on her bed. He turned to Robin and said, "You are coming downstairs with me. Now!"
Robin looked over at Jennifer, and suddenly regretted all the things she had said. She wasn't sure what had come over her, but just felt like she needed to say those things. Now she felt terrible, and she knew she was going to get a spanking.
Charlie brought Robin into his bedroom.
"Sit there," he commanded, pointing to a big red chair Lisa had bought. It was covered with clothes. Charlie cleared them off so Robin could sit down. Charlie called Lisa into the room. She had just put the baby down for a nap.
"What's going on?" she asked.
Charlie said, "Robin is in big trouble. You should have heard the things she was saying to Jennifer."
Lisa asked Robin, "What did you say, little girl?"
Robin did not answer her mother. She couldn't. She didn't think even she could repeat the things she had said to her sister.
"I'm waiting, Robin," Lisa said impatiently.
Charlie said, "You had better tell your mother what you said this instant, little girl."
Robin just sat there. Her mother and father stared at her, waiting.
Lisa said, "Robin, I want to know what you said to Jennifer and I want to know right now."
Robin looked at her father, "I'm sorry, Daddy, I didn't mean for anyone to hear what I said."
Her father said, "Except for Jennifer, right?" Then he turned to Lisa and told her the awful things Robin had said. When Robin heard her own words repeated, she burst into tears. The things she had said sounded worse when she heard her father say them.
"I'm sorry, Daddy, I'm sorry!" Robin cried.
"I think you're only sorry that I overheard you, young lady. Now come over here right now," Charlie said.
Robin went over to her father reluctantly. He pulled her pants and panties down, and she stepped out of them. He pulled her over his knees and started to spank. He was very angry and spanked harder than he usually did. Robin was hysterical by the fifth spank. After about two dozen more spanks, Charlie lifted Robin up. She put her hand back to rub the sting out. She went to lie down on the bed, for that is what she usually did after a spanking. But her mother stopped her.
"Just a minute, little girl, we're not finished here yet," Lisa said. She got up and went to her dresser. She picked up her hairbrush and came back and knelt down before Robin.
"You are going to be one sorry little girl, Robin. You're going to find out what happens to little girls who do not do what they are told, and who say nasty things." Lisa said.
Robin looked at the hairbrush. She had no idea what her mother was talking about; she had no idea what Lisa had in mind to do with the hairbrush. She couldn't understand why brushing her hair would be a bad thing. She was going to find out soon enough.
Lisa sat in the red chair. She told Robin to come and stand next to her. Lisa pulled Robin over her lap.
Robin said, "No, Mommy, No! Daddy already spanked me. I'm sorrrrrrry!"
"You know what, Robin, I think Daddy's right, you're not sorry about what you said, you're sorry you got caught. And I'm not very happy with you right now, because when Daddy told you to tell me what you said, you didn't. Well, if you think you're sorry now, wait until I finish spanking you with this hairbrush," Lisa said.
Charlie sat on the edge of the bed watching Lisa spank Robin with the hairbrush. He was mildly amused and somewhat shocked. For one thing, he had never actually witnessed his wife administer one of the twins' spankings, and for another thing, he had never heard her so angry before. He watched Lisa spank Robin over and over and suddenly wondered what her life had been like as a child.
"And I don't ever want to hear or hear about such language from you ever again, do you understand me, young lady?" Lisa finished her lecture with five rapid swats of the hairbrush.
Robin had never felt such fire in her rear end in her life. Her father had never spanked so hard, and she had never had two spankings in a row, especially one with a hairbrush. As soon as Lisa let her up, she rubbed her bottom with both hands and jumped around the room. All the while, Robin was crying hysterically.
Lisa said, "Now, I want you to go stand in the corner for fifteen minutes."
Robin looked hesitantly at her father and then back to her mother. She had never been told to stand in the corner after a spanking before.
Charlie said, "Robin, I think you had better do what Mommy said, right now."
Robin walked over to the corner that her mother had pointed out and stood there facing the wall. For the entire fifteen minutes, Robin tried to rub the sting out of her bottom. Charlie and Lisa talked quietly, and every once in a while, looked over to make sure Robin was still where she was supposed to be.
Charlie said, "Wow, honey, that was quite a show. I never knew you could wield a hairbrush quite like that."
Lisa said, "Well, I had a lot of experience with it as a child, from the other end, of course." She chuckled.
"I guess we won't need to wash Robin's mouth out with soap this time. I'm pretty sure she will never speak to Jennifer like that again," Charlie stated.
Moving, Part VI
I woke up and continued to lie on my bed on my stomach. My butt hurt so much from yesterday. It felt like I had just gotten the spanking instead of it being from yesterday afternoon. I had never been hit with a brush before and it really hurt a lot. I am never going to do anything again to make Mommy want to hit me with a brush. I really was sorry for those things I had said to Jennifer. I don't know why I said that she liked to wet her pants. I guess I really was starting to think it was true. I mean she did it practically every day. And then she got so much attention from Mommy and Daddy. I think it was when I said that she liked to get spankings that I went too far. But she does get them more than I do. She gets one like once a week. Wouldn't you think by eleven years of age that you would know the kinds of things not to do so you won't get a spanking?! Of course, look at me. I didn't know I would be over both my mommy's and my daddy's lap!
I looked over at Jennifer; she was still sleeping. I started to think again about what I had said to her yesterday. I really, really felt bad. I know I apologized to her yesterday, but I think I will do it again today. I mean, Mommy and Daddy made me apologize last night, but it was one of those apologies like when you're at school and the teacher calls you over and says, "Mary told me you said something nasty. We don't say nasty things. Say you're sorry." And you say you're sorry, but you say it like you don't really mean it, and the teacher says to say it like you mean it, so you do, but you don't really mean it. You only say it that way because the teacher told you to. That was kind of how I apologized to my sister last night. I really did mean it, but for some reason I didn't say it like I meant it. I guess I wasn't ready to make up yet. But now I am.
"Jenn?" I whispered.
"What?" she said.
"Are you up?" I asked.
Jennifer sat up. "Obviously, Robin, if I'm talking to you," she said.
I answered, "No, I mean, are you awake, you know, like can we talk?"
She looked at me and said, "Yeah, I guess so."
"Look," I said, "about yesterday,"
She cut me off. "Forget it, Robin, you already apologized. I don't really want to talk about it."
"Please, Jenn, I just wanted to say I was sorry again. I mean it, I'm really sorry. I don't know why I said those things to you. Do you forgive me?" I asked Jennifer. All of a sudden, it really mattered to me whether she would forgive me or not. I felt like I would die if she didn't. In that moment, I truly loved my sister.
Jennifer was silent. Then she said, "I forgive you, Robin, but I just have one question. Did you really think I liked to wet my pants?"
I said, "Um, yeah, I guess I started thinking you did. I guess that was kind of silly. I mean, no one wants to have an accident. Especially at eleven years of age. I'm really sorry, Jenn."
Jennifer said, "That's all right. Let's forget about it. Hey, what time is it? Don't we have to get up for school soon?"
"I don't know. I don't want to go to school today, though. It's going to hurt for me to sit at my desk," I said.
"You really got it good yesterday, huh? Daddy was so mad. I've never seen him that mad," Jenn said.
"Yeah," I said, "he was pissed. And Mommy was really angry. She even spanked me with the back of a hairbrush. After Daddy spanked me. That's why I'm still in pain."
Jennifer said, "Really? With a hairbrush? Ouch, that must have really hurt."
Just then, there was a knock on the door. We both yelled, "Come in." Daddy came in the room.
"Good morning, girls!" He said, and gave us each a kiss on the cheek. "There's no school today. It snowed last night."
We both jumped up. Ouch, I shouldn't have done that.
"Really? It snowed? But it's April," Jenn said.
Daddy said, "I know, but it did. They just announced on the radio that school has been canceled. So I guess you two get another day to rest. And to unpack. We can work on the playroom today."
I don't know about Jenn. But my heart fell. When I heard snow, I just wanted to get all bundled up and go outside to play. But obviously, Daddy had other ideas.
I said, "But, Daddy, can't we go play outside in the snow? You're off today; you can help us build a snowman."
Daddy turned to me and looked at me like I was crazy. "I don't think so, Robin, you are grounded, for two weeks, remember? Maybe Jennifer would like to go outside a little later, but I'm afraid you're not going out until school tomorrow," he said.
I laid back down on my bed, on my stomach of course. I was so bummed. The first snow in months and I wasn't allowed to go play in it. I probably wouldn't see sunlight for months. Suddenly, I was so angry at myself for being in trouble. And it wasn't fair if Daddy let Jennifer go out and play in the snow, but not me. We had both been grounded over the weekend because of what we did at the amusement park. I would have been allowed to go out today if I hadn't said those horrible things to Jennifer yesterday. I'm so stupid. But wait! Jennifer had forgiven me. Maybe she would help me tell Daddy it was okay if I went out because we were friends again.
I tried, hoping Jennifer would back me up. "Daddy," I said, "I apologized to Jennifer again this morning, and we had a nice talk. She forgives me. Would it be okay if I went outside just today, because it's a special day, with the snow, and then I'll be grounded the rest of the time, like you said?" I looked over at Jennifer. I mouthed, "Please."
She piped in. "Yeah, really Daddy, Robin and I made up. I know she didn't mean what she said. And anyway, it wouldn't be any fun for me to play in the snow without her."
Daddy looked at me and then at Jennifer. I had my fingers crossed behind my back silently praying that he would relent. He didn't. I should have known. He said to Jennifer, "Well, that's up to you honey, but I'm afraid Robin's not going out anywhere today." Then he looked at me, "Nice try, though."
I was so bummed. Here it was snowing in April. All my friends and all the neighborhood kids would be out pulling their sleds, and making snow forts, and having snow ball fights, and I would be stuck in my room, unpacking. Life was so unfair.
"Why don't you girls come down for breakfast? And then I'll come back up with you, and we can get started on the playroom," Daddy said.
We both got up. I mean, what choice did we have? It was already settled how I would be spending the day off. What a bummer!
We went downstairs. Mommy was in the kitchen feeding the baby. Steven got lots of attention, too. It seemed that everyone got a lot of attention, except me. I would have to think of something to change that.
Mommy said, "Good morning, girls. How'd you two sleep? Do you like your new room?"
Why was Mommy so cheery? Didn't she remember what she had done to me yesterday? Well, she could be happy-go-lucky if she wanted to, but I wasn't going to be cheery back. Jennifer answered her but I didn't say a word.
She looked at me and said, "Robin, aren't you talking to me today?" I just shook my head no. She said, "Okay, I understand. You'll talk to me when you're ready." And then she just went back to feeding the baby. She didn't look upset at all. Boy, if someone wasn't speaking to me, I'd be really mad. I'd want to know why, and I would make a big stink until that person talked to me. And here Mommy didn't even seem to care that I wasn't talking to her! I'll never figure parents out.
After breakfast, true to his word, Daddy came upstairs with us and started helping us to set up the playroom. Playroom! Can you believe that's what they called it? Jenn and I thought we should call it the Recreation Room, or Rec Room for short, maybe even the Entertainment Room, after all, we are eleven years old. But you know how mommies and daddies are, they think their children never grow up. So the playroom it is!
We told Daddy where to set up the shelves and the couch that they bought just for us. We also had some bean bag chairs for our friends to sit on. I was going to set up all my Barbie stuff in one area, and Jennifer was going to put her boom box and cassettes in another corner. Also, we had a large red metal shelving unit. Daddy wanted us to put all our board games and puzzles on it. And Mommy wanted us to put all our stuffed animals on the top. She hated having them all around the place. In the apartment, they were everywhere, and it used to make her crazy.
Daddy told us to try to get as much done as we could today, so that we would know where everything was. Also, as soon as it was set up, we could start having friends over. Well, at least Jennifer could. I would have to wait two weeks. Before he went downstairs, he told us not to go into the two big walk-in closets in the room. They were filled with lots of junk, and in the back of each closet, was the access to the attic. Well, he didn't have to worry about me; I didn't want to go into the attic. It sounded scary!
We worked and worked. Everything was starting to look really good, when Mommy called us to lunch. She had made chicken soup. And we had crackers to dunk into the soup. I was starting to feel better toward Mommy, but I wasn't ready to tell her yet, so I didn't. She made small talk with Jennifer.
Suddenly, the baby cried. Mommy went to check on him. She called out to Daddy. Daddy went to see what the matter was. It turns out that Steven was running a fever. Mommy was worried because he had been exposed to chicken pox a couple days before. She wanted to take him to the doctor, but Daddy didn't want her to drive with the baby in the snow. Finally, it was decided that Daddy would take both Mommy and Steven to the doctor.
"Okay, now you two girls go back upstairs and continue working on the playroom. If you need a break, you can watch tv. It's all hooked up in the den. Make sure you write down all phone messages. If you need anything, you can call Aunt Joan and Uncle Jack. They don't live too far from here, and they can be here in two minutes, and...."
Oh, my god! Give it up already! I tuned Daddy out after awhile. I mean, give me a break. They were just going to the doctor's. We've stayed alone before. He went on and on and on. I hoped Jenn was listening, because I just couldn't deal anymore. Finally, after having spent three hours telling us what to do, they finally left. Yes, freedom at last. Since we couldn't go out, at least we had the whole house to ourselves.
We explored the whole house. There were boxes everywhere, but it was still fun. After awhile, we went back upstairs and worked on the playroom. We were pretty much finished in there. Then we went back to our bedroom, and put a few more things away. After an hour, we were bored. We didn't want to watch tv, but there wasn't too much else to do.
Jennifer said, "Hey, Robin, let's look in those two closets. Maybe there's something fun we could play with in there!"
I said, "Are you kidding, Jenn? I'm not going in there. The attic's in there!"
"So? What are you afraid of? Do you think there are bats in there, Robin?" Jenn asked sarcastically.
"No," I said, although I wasn't so sure. We knew a girl who had bats in her attic. Hey, you never know! "Anyway, Daddy told us not to go in there."
"Yea, because there's a lot of junk in there. Maybe we could sort it out. Then Daddy'll be glad that we did it" Jenn said.
I said, "What are you crazy? You would actually tell Daddy that we directly disobeyed him? Jenn, you weren't there last night. You didn't feel how much that hairbrush hurt. Uh-uh, no way! I'm not doing it. If you do, you're on your own."
Nope, that wasn't for me. I was going to be good from now on. I wasn't going to do anything to get Mommy or Daddy angry with me. While I was deep in my thoughts, I heard a noise. I turned around. I couldn't believe it: Jennifer was actually going into one of the closets. Oh, my god, she is crazy! I'm outta here.
I went back to our bedroom. I laid down on my bed and started reading this book I was supposed to read for school. It was called "Tuck Everlasting". It was kind of a strange book about these people who find the fountain of youth, and never grow up. My friend had finished it and said it was good, but I was having trouble getting into it. I needed to read it by Friday.
I tried to get into it. I had read almost ten pages before I realized that I had no idea what I read. Don't you hate that? I realized that I was thinking about what Jennifer was doing. She was probably finding all this really cool stuff, and I was reading this stupid book. I was debating with myself as to whether to go join her in the closet. Hmm, that would be very bad. Daddy told us not to go in there. But maybe there's cool stuff in there. Oh, I don't know what to do!
All of a sudden, my sister yelled, "COOOOOOOOOOL! Robin, come quick, you have got to see this!"
I jumped up and ran into the play room. I didn't see my sister, and both closet doors were open. I didn't know which one she was inside.
"Where are you, Jenn?" I asked.
"In here. C'mere," said a muffled voice.
I followed the voice into the closet on the left. She had pulled the string on the lightbulb fixture, and the whole little room/closet was bright. There in the center of the room, was a giant chest. It looked like a pirate's treasure chest. I couldn't believe it. The sight of it took my breath away. The two of us just stared at it, for what felt like an eternity.
"Cooool!" I finally said. Neither of us moved. We didn't want to touch it. Maybe it wasn't really there. Maybe we were so bored we were imagining it.
"Let's see what's in it," Jennifer said.
"Okay," I said. We went over to it. Gone were my thoughts on how much trouble we would be in for disobeying Daddy. Gone were my newfound thoughts on staying out of trouble. Here was this treasure chest, and I just had to know what treasures laid deep inside of it.
Jennifer tried to open it, but she couldn't do it. "Here, let me help you," I said. We both tried. Finally, it opened. We both looked inside. The chest was filled with clothes. At first, we were disappointed. But then we looked at the clothes. These weren't just ordinary clothes. They were clothes fit for a king and queen.
"Oooh, they're beautiful!" Jenn said.
I agreed. "They take my breath away. I wonder who they belong to. I've never seen them before."
Jennifer said, "Let's play dress-up."
"Dress-up? You want to play dress-up?" I was shocked. My sister fancies herself on being very mature. She makes fun of me for still collecting stickers and playing with Barbie dolls.
"But, Jenn," I said, "what about what Daddy said? Um, do you think we should?"
Before I knew it, Jennifer had taken out this long, beautiful dress and put it on over her pajamas. She ran to look at herself in the mirror in our bathroom. When she came back, she took it off, pulled off her pajamas, slipped the dress back on, and ran to look in the mirror again. I guess her pajamas didn't match.
I was still debating whether to try some clothes on. After Jennifer tried on and discarded two dresses, I decided to just look through the rest of the chest. Hey, looking couldn't hurt. Suddenly, I found this beautiful blue dress with flowers on it. It was the nicest dress I have ever seen, and I'm not a dress person. I prefer pants. What could it hurt, to just try it on!? My sister looked like she was having so much fun. Okay, what the hay!
I put the dress on. I went to our bathroom and looked in the mirror. I looked so beautiful. I wished I had a camera to take a picture. I went back into the closet in the playroom. Jennifer had some beautiful necklaces in her hands. She was trying to decide which one matched her dress the best.
"Let's have a tea party!" she said.
I looked at her again like she was crazy. I'm sure she would deny this whole day if I ever told any of her friends about it. But it was fun! I liked when she and I got along. It was much better than fighting.
Jennifer set up our little art table. She put toy plates and teacups on the table. Please, don't even ask why we still had a play tea set: my mother never throws anything away. It was fun. We pretended we were high society ladies at the country club. Jennifer and I were giggling and having so much fun.
Then I heard a noise. At first, I was scared. I thought it was a bat in the attic. Then I thought it sounded like footsteps. Maybe Daddy had forgotten to lock the door, and there was a stranger in the house. Maybe it was a burglar who saw all our boxes and was coming to rob us. Could it be a kidnapper? While I was thinking all these terrible thoughts, my sister just started to cry. My back was to the door. I turned around.
There was Daddy standing there. Uh-oh. He wore a frown on his face and had his hands on his hips. He was not a happy camper. I had a feeling we were not going to be happy campers in about two minutes. I decided to play it light.
"Uh, hi, Daddy, we didn't hear you come home. Is Steven okay?" I asked carefully.
Daddy didn't say a word. I'm not sure if he was so mad that he didn't know what to say, or if he was just trying to process my obviously stupid question.
"Steven is going to be fine. Which is more than I can say for the two of you. Just what do you think you're doing?"
Jennifer answered before I could choose my words. "Um, we're having a tea party, Daddy."
Daddy said, "I see. And where did those dresses and jewelry come from?"
I decided that honesty was the best policy. "In the closet, Daddy, there's this big treasure chest. It's beautiful. You should see what else is in there."
"I have seen, Robin. But what I'd like to know is why you have seen it. I specifically told you not to go into those closets!" Daddy was angry! "Now, I want the two of you to take those dresses off immediately. And do it very carefully. That chest does not even belong to us. It belongs to the people who used to live here. They didn't trust the movers to take it, because it's an antique. They were going to come here last night to pick it up, but got stuck when they heard about the bad weather. Go right now!"
Jennifer and I went as quickly as possible. Daddy had said that little speech funny. It sounded as if he had marbles in his mouth. I think he was just very mad. Boy, and I thought he was mad when he heard me say nasty things to Jennifer. I guess I don't know mad too well.
While Jenn and I were changing, we heard Daddy talking to Mommy. He was yelling, but I don't think he was yelling at her. I think he was yelling to her, about us. She sounded like she was trying to calm him down. But I don't think it was working.
Jennifer and I stayed in our room, even after we finished changing. We didn't think Daddy'd want us to leave. After a few minutes, Mommy came to our room. I think she was angry with us, too. But she tried to sound nice, as she talked to us.
"Girls, Daddy told you not to go into those closets, but you did it anyway. He wasn't trying to be mean when he told you that; it's just that the stuff in those closets do not belong to us. Maybe we should have told you that, but we really didn't think you would disobey us. Your father is very angry with you right now. He went for a walk in the snow to calm himself down."
Mommy sounded disappointed in us. I started to cry. I knew I should have kept with my instincts. It's just that the treasure chest and the clothes were so cool. Both Jenn and I apologized to Mommy. We knew, though, that it wouldn't be enough.
"You two just stay in your room until your Daddy comes back. I'm going to go try to fold those clothes again. The people are coming next Saturday to pick up their stuff. You will have to tell them the truth when they come. Do you understand me?" Mommy asked.
Both Jenn and I nodded. We knew that would be one of the hardest things we'd ever have to do. We hoped the people would be nice about it. Maybe we could gain their sympathy when we tell them that we were properly punished for it.
Well, there was nothing left to do now, except sit and wait for Daddy to come back. I guess I should try to get into that book now. Yeah, right! Have you ever had to sit and wait for a spanking. It is the worst feeling. Well, maybe not the worst. The worst is the actual spanking. But waiting for it is pretty bad, too.
Daddy came back about an hour later. I had read three chapters. I still couldn't get into the book; it was so dumb. Jennifer had fallen asleep on her bed. Boy, for an eleven-year-old, she sure takes a lot of naps! I heard Daddy's voice downstairs. He was talking to Mommy. Then I heard them; the footsteps on the stairs. This was new to me. We didn't have stairs back at the apartment.
Our door was open, and Daddy came right in. He sat on the edge of Jennifer's bed and gently shook her awake. He asked her if she was wet. And miracle of all miracles, she wasn't. He told her to sit up. He told me to sit up, too. It was hard. My butt still hurt, and now I was going to be getting another spanking on top of it.
Daddy said, "Girls, I am very disappointed that you chose to ignore me today. You know that I love you both, and I only do the things that I do, to protect you. What you did today was very immature and selfish. You had plenty of things you could have done, but instead you chose the one activity I told you not to do. Now you're going to be punished. But before I begin, is there anything you want to say to me?"
I couldn't think of one thing to say in our defense. I knew we had totally messed up. Jennifer, on the other hand, felt the need to say something. What is she, stupid!?
"Daddy, it was all my fault. Robin told me not to, but I opened the closets anyway. She didn't even do it, until I called her to show her the treasure chest. She didn't even want to try on the clothes, but I was doing it, and then she ended up joining me. But it really was my fault," Jenn cried.
Boy, she is stupid! I couldn't believe she went and took the blame for this. It was so obvious that we were both caught, and were both to blame. Then I felt that love for my sister growing inside of me. I just wanted to run over and hug her. But I refrained from moving. I waited to see what Daddy would say.
Daddy looked at Jenn and then at me. He called me over to Jenn's bed. He said, "Girls, I know how hard it is growing up and trying to do the right things. But you two made a choice today. You chose to go into that closet and touch something that didn't belong to you. You both know better than that. I'm afraid that you are going to have to try to learn this lesson, even if I have to spank you for it over and over. Eventually you will learn, and eventually you will make the right choices."
Then Daddy sent me back to my bed to wait my turn. He pulled Jennifer over his lap, and pulled her pajama bottoms and panties right off. He started to spank and spank. I turned away. I didn't want to watch. I laid on my stomach and put my hands over my ears. It didn't matter; I still heard. My sister was crying hysterically and Daddy kept on going. He must have hit her thirty times. Then he stopped. All I could hear was my sister's cries. I looked over. Daddy was kissing her on her cheek. Then he walked over to my bed.
I got off the bed and went to stand next to him.
"I'm really sorry, Daddy," I said.
Daddy said, "I seem to be hearing that a lot from you, lately, Robin. When is it going to stop?"
I just shrugged my shoulders. I wasn't sure if that was the kind of question I was supposed to answer or not. And you know what, I really didn't know the answer anyway.
(The End)
